Measured change

Article Abstract:

Measuring machine technology has made significant progress, but the pace of development of some aspects of software used in this industry has been slow. This has resulted in manufacture of instruments that have components with wrong measurements. The personnel using the instruments are not well versed in technical concepts and are not computer literate. Efforts are being made to improve the quality of instruments by modernizing the industry machinery and using better calibration systems.

Communicating change

Article Abstract:

Engineers in management are providing inspiring leadership by developing and adopting new technology. In many cases, engineers have used their ability to manage highly complex technical projects, to meet and discuss finance with investors and to provide a leadership role through communications. Technical convergence will continue to play an important part in industry, and engineering managers must find new ways to align rewards and business strategies.

Time for change

Article Abstract:

European governments and the EU should realize the importance of design to the future competitiveness of European firms. The growth of Asian Tigers such as South Korea and Taiwan is threatening the position of European products in the market. Governments must prevent a worsening of the problem by convincing firms of the value of design while the EU should develop policies promoting the more effective use of design.
