Determination of mercury binding forms in contaminated soils: mercury pyrolysis versus sequential extractions

Article Abstract:

A mercury (Hg) pyrolysis technique was used as an alternative method to the sequential leaching procedures (SEP) for investigating the Hg-binding forms and evaluating their risks. Unlike the SEP, the Hg pyrolysis technique, which determines the Hg-binding forms in soils using their thermally induced Hg desorption behavior, was able to identify specific mercury compounds contaminating the soil.
