Meshing computer technologies

Article Abstract:

The use of differentcomputer-aided design (CAD) programs has made it necessary for engineering firms to devote time and effort in data translation. Berger, Lehman Associates combines the use of AutoCAD and Mcrostation and has created programs to facilitate translation between the two systems and establish an organized library of drawings and data. They have also developed ways to integrate their CAD programs with that of their clients. These include software translation to enable the company to access programs to their system and standardization of previously acquired systems.

TRB reports weigh new transport technologies

Article Abstract:

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is exploring alternative transport systems that could alleviate the US' road and air traffic problems. High-speed trains may be the answer but prohibitive costs would pose funding problems. Maglev systems still need further studies to ensure effective operations. TRB also underscores the need to develop an intelligent-vehicle highway system that would minimize road hazards and decongest the country's highways.
