Evidence for diffuse contamination of river sediments by road asphalt particles

Article Abstract:

Researchers from France collected river samples from the Alsace-Lorraine to detect the presence of possible contaminations from petroleum byproducts in road asphalt particles.

Modeling diffuse phosphorus loads from land to freshwater using the sedimentray record

Article Abstract:

The authors studied diffuse phosphorus levels in Friary Lough, a lake in Northern Ireland, and reconstructed the phosphorus loading history using a palaeolimnological model. Results indicate that phosphorus levels increased after the 1940s, when agriculture was becoming a primary focus of the country. Graphs illustrate different findings regarding phosphorus in Friary Lough between the years 1906 and 1995.

Reconstruction of lake phosphorus loading and dynamics suing the sedimentary record

Article Abstract:

A continuous stirred tank reactor model is used to present a new approach in reconstructing lake phosphorus loading. The new reconstruction method involves the combination of the diatom-inferred total phosphorus (DI-TP) concentration with the whole-lake-basin sedimentary phosphorus accumulation rate. The product of the DI-TP concentration and lake outflow volume records the output while the sum of these two components records the input as input = (output + sedimentation) in a lake in steady state and the sedimentary accumulation rate records the phosphorus sedimentation.
