Monte Verde: blessed but not confirmed

Article Abstract:

A team of archaeologists visited the Monte Verde, Chile, dig site in Jan 1997, and came away convinced that the site is pre-Clovis. The finding is significant because it raises doubts about the Clovis people being the original inhabitants of the Americas. However, some archaeologists dispute the finding.

Monte Verde and the Pleistocene peopling of the Americas

Article Abstract:

T Dillehay's second book on the Monte Verde, Chile, Late Pleistocene site provides detailed proof of a New World settlement that predates the Clovis culture of North America. The site's distance from the Asia/North America land bridge indicates a much earlier beginning for people in the Americas.

Dating a Paleoindian site in the Amazon in comparison with Clovis culture

Article Abstract:

An important study of Amazonian Paleoindians maintained that a distinct subsistence culture existed in South America at the same time as the North American Clovis culture. Reviewers believe the radiocarbon dating of seeds does not prove that the two cultures were contemporaneous.
