NASA revises EOS, adds small craft

Article Abstract:

NASA's plan for the EOS responds to criticism from scientists and lawmakers. The data system will be updated and decentralized to allow scientist teams to compete for processing work. Industry-supported small Earth System Science Pathfinder satellites will complement the three existing platforms.

Big projects could threaten weapons labs' research base

Article Abstract:

Officials at the Dept of Energy's weapons laboratories face the challenge of financing costly stewardship programs while continuing to fund weapons research. Decreases in funding may force them to chose between their staffs and new facilities.

Services target labs to save money

Article Abstract:

Decreasing dfense budgets will cause the Dept. of Defense to close or consolidate almost two dozen of its more than 80 laboratories. The scheme is part of the recommendations from the Base Closure and Realignment Commission.
