Prevention and reversal of hair graying: A possibility?

Article Abstract:

It is estimated that at least 60% of adult US men and women use hair colouring products to cover gray hair. Certain studies have indicated that long-term usage of hair dyes are linked to a small increased risk of developing some cancers. Ways to block or reverse the process of hair graying itself are thus sought. The significant, proliferative activity of amelanotic outer root sheath (ORS) melanocytes in culture backs the idea that ORS could provide a reservoir of immature melanocytes to the hair bulb during early anagen and aid hair regrowth in alopecia areata.
