New view of spinal cord injury

Article Abstract:

Four research teams have discovered convincing evidence that much of the spinal cord damage that occurs up to 3 weeks following an injury is not due to the injury itself but to apoptosis, programmed cell death. The research suggests that apoptosis blockers may limit spinal cord injuries.

Researchers find molecules that muzzle killer cells

Article Abstract:

Two teams of researchers independently have found evidence that suggests that natural killer cells have two different systems of inhibitory receptors that work at the same time. Unexpected findings about human T cells are also discussed.
