Niagara River corridor dedicated as globally significant IBA

Article Abstract:

The Niagara River corridor has been declared as an important bird area (IBA) by the Canadian Nature Federation, Bird Studies Canada, New York Audubon and the American Bird Conservancy. Niagara River was selected since it supports more than 1% of the global population of a bird species, the gull.

The comeback champion

Article Abstract:

Commercial land development, such as golf courses and parks, has aided the survival of the Canada goose. The goose population in the region declined due to habitat destruction and human hunting, but has recovered slowly due to the efforts of conservation groups.

The Niagara Important Bird Area in Canada has become the home for a pair of peregrine falcons, which many conservationist hope will be the start for the regeneration of the peregrine falcon sub-species.
