TiO2-mediated photochemical disinfection of Escherichia coli using optical fibers

Article Abstract:

A system composed of titanium dioxide (TiO2) suspension and diffuse-light emitting optical fibers (DLEOFs) was developed for photochemical disinfection of bacteria. Light is a limiting factor in TiO2-mediated photochemical disinfection when TiO2 concentration is high. Compared with conventional optical fibers, DLEOFs allow a four-fold increase of light distribution in a suspension of Escherichia coli with a high concentration of TiO2. Thus, DLEOFs may be used in photodisinfection systems for water supplies.

Prometryne oxidation by sodium hypochlorite in aqueous solution: kinetics and mechanism

Article Abstract:

A study has been conducted to examine the behavior of the herbicide prometryne upon reaction with sodium hypochlorite. Three steps of the reaction pathway were characterized from a kinetic point of view. Results of this kinetic investigation together with experimental evidences were used to asses the overall mechanism of the process.
