Omega Watch Corporation: a 30-year relationship of space and time

Article Abstract:

The Omega Watch Corp. has been associated with the US space program since the 1960s. Omega watches became the official timepieces in space because of their accuracy. Former astronaut Thomas Stafford, Omega's CEO, says America's space exploration provides needed information on resource and energy development.

World Space Congress report

Article Abstract:

The 35th anniversary of the International Geophysical Year coincides with the 500th anniversary of Columbus' voyage, and 1999 is designated as International Space Year. The World Space Congress will emphasize global environmental protection, rather than former concerns of international security.

The Russian government is encouraging domestic investors to render financial help for the completion of its first space station, called Mir. Sources claim that the Mir space station has been incurring massive losses to the government, with operating costs amounting to as much as $20 million.
