Article Abstract:

Many firms install and utilize computer systems without knowing the overall operating costs of maintaining such systems. This lack of knowledge may eventually lead to a drain in resources if financial managers do not put more consideration on the issue of overall operating costs when purchasing computer hardware. Traditionally, the purchase of PC hardware has been governed by four factors that include product quality and reliability, the manufacturer's track record, compatibility with existing equipment and initial cash outlay.

Penny wise: Making the right purchasing decisions for apparently routine equipment is not so easy

Engineering equipment often falls short of its specification and may even be entirely inadequate or unsuitable for operation in certain environments. Sirep has aimed to provide a forum for major industrial equipment users to cooperate in equipment testing against specification. The organization has a new name, Evaluation International, and a new chief executive Charles Excell. He aims to ensure that the organization is a major influence on the purchasing policies of industrial organizations.

Changing with the times

Article Abstract:

The requirements of industries are always changing, and engineers need to be retrained from time to time. The educational training of engineers needs to be changed to meet the present day needs. Industries have to meet the need of customers and also keep pace with the ever changing technology. Needs of different companies are different, and to meet the ever growing challenges, engineers with good technical knowledge, business and communication skills are needed.
