A farm bill agenda

Article Abstract:

Congress has omitted to debate the most significant issues that will determine the future of US agriculture. It is vital that these issues are on the agenda for the forthcoming farm bill debate. They include the role of exports in the future economic health of US agriculture, the prospects for further agricultural trade liberalization and providing greater support for family farms. If these issues are not addressed, US farmers face a very uncertain future.

Farming's future

Article Abstract:

The 1996 Farm Act failed to address a number of key issues for agriculture, including the structure of the agricultural sector. These issues go a long way beyond the level of income the government should transfer to the agricultural sector under the 1996 Farm Act. Agricultural policy must now address the growing problem of regulation versus education, technical assistance and incentives.
