Effect of Aerosol Chemical Composition on the Photodegradation of Nitro-polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Article Abstract:

A study of photodegradation rates from organic aerosol constituents using a chemical model system to simulate the liquid film on particles from wood stove stack gases and diesel exhaust. The findings are compared with smog chamber studies, and environmental relevance is discussed.

Photolytic behavior of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in diesel particulate matter deposited on the ground

Article Abstract:

Diesel particulate matter (DPM) is placed on the ground, mixed with soil, and leached then absorbed into soil; and the photodegradation of components phenanthrene, benzo[a]-pyrene, fluoranthene, pyrene, and chrysene is studied. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are graphed for irridation time, showing how the photodegradation rates change depending upon soil composition, depth, transport processes, humidity, and temperature.
