Pilot study teaches NSF a costly lesson

Article Abstract:

The NSF planned a review of its Science and Technology Centers to act as a model for assessments of other research divisions under the 1993 Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA). Contractor Abt Assoc began collecting data before the NSF's GPRA strategy and an expert committee had been formed.

A celebration of difference: science and democracy in India

Article Abstract:

India has openly scrutinized and reinvented Western ideas, demonstrating a unique dialogue between science and democracy. Unfortunately, official science policy has dulled this dialogue, which has been important to solving scientific controversies.
