Polluting emissions register

Article Abstract:

A standardised record of industrial emissions would be extremely useful to the European Community, and would be partly based on the pilot schemes already being drawn up by three member states. A database covering all European Community countries would link up with a database on point-source and diffuse emisions which is under discussion, and comprehensive information on the environmental impacts of companies would allow a league table of the best performers to be established. Standards for emissions reporting have already been set down by the European Chemical Industry Council (CEFIC). Prospects for an EC-US emissions reporting standard are also discussed.

Empirical model of vehicle emissions

Article Abstract:

An empirical model for establishing the relations between equilibrium vehicle emission distributions and malfunction, repair and replacement rates is presented. The model monitors the changes that occur in any of the three rates. These rate variations are then used to determine the vehicle's emission changes and new equilibrium distribution. The applicability of this model is demonstrated through actual vehicle emission measurements.

The emissions-to-jobs ratio

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of the emissions-to-jobs (E/J) ratio as a tool for evaluating different pollution control strategies and policies was investigated. The results showed that standardizing emissions data using the E/J ratio allowed the efficiency of state, facility or industry in processing materials and reducing emissions to be determined.
