Potential gains through welded-wire fabric reinforcement

Article Abstract:

The use of traditional steel reinforcing bars is one of the most labor-intensive construction activities. So that unproductive labor and equipment hours may be minimized, prefabricated meshes known as welded wire fabric (WWF) or welded-steel mesh can be shipped to construction sites and cut to size for use in bridge decks and walkways. A feasibility study and cost evaluation of WWF asprimary reinforcement for bridge decks implies that this innovation offers considerable savings in time and cost. Placement methods and productivity improvement plans are also presented.
