Article Abstract:

This is a comparative analysis of the attitude of North Americans and the British towards their immediate surroundings. Few North Americans are environmentally concerned and conscious of their immediate surroundings. American conservation efforts are focused on wilderness reserves and parks but have failed to align itself to the land around them. The British display enthusiasm for intervention and manipulation of their landscape. A change in attitude of North Americans requires them to accept themselves as legitimate descendents of the landscape.
