Prospecting for words

Article Abstract:

Nearly 50% of the names given to minerals are reflections of people allied with the mineralogical profession. Inventors, explorers and even the composer Mozart have been commemorated in this way. Other names are derived from the place where the mineral was first discovered, and the physical comparison of the mineral to an animal or plant.
