On raising energy expenditure in ob/ob mice

Article Abstract:

Energy expenditure in obese mutant ob/ob mice was reportedly increased in one study by disrupting the neuropeptide-Y (NPY) gene, and in another study by treatment with OB protein. A comment criticizes the measurement of oxygen consumption by body weight, and claims that consumption per mouse is not changed.

Hepatic fibrosis in Ahr-I- mice

Article Abstract:

The research finding that mice deficient in the aryl hydrocarbon receptor exhibit fibrosis in the hepatic portal tract may be the result of the larger amount of connective tissue in the Ahr-I- liver sections. Arguments for and against this interpretation are presented.
