Hutchinson and DSM RIM Nylon has developed the DSH run-flat system for standard model cars having a rubber tread with a glass-fiber reinforced NYRIM core to augment their product line of the ASH system which provides protection under extreme conditions. The DSH system provides extra tyre around the wheel rim inside the normal tire preventing skidding and allowing for driving after a blowout. Many military, security and VIP vehicles are now fitted with this system.

Michelin et Cie has developed a tire that saves fuel. Because the rolling resistance of Michelin's Green Tire is 35% less than that of conventional tires, a car equipped with the tires consumes about 5% less fuel than a car equipped with conventional tires.
