Rain forest crunch: Amazonian forests may have been smaller in the last ice age

Article Abstract:

Researchers at Ohio State Univ have found evidence indicating that Amazon rain forests became smaller and cooler during the last ice age. An ice core from a Peruvian mountain glacier indicates that levels of atmospheric dust were 200 times greater during the last ice age than in modern times.

Rocking rocks

Researchers are placing boulders in a precarious position by the side of trails to determine whether a particular area is prone to earthquakes. The technique is based on the premise that precarious rocks will move from their position in response to earthquake ground motion.

Plane scary

NASA's Reduced-Gravity Office uses a specially-equipped KC-135A jet plane to simulate zero gravity during flight. The plane was used in the movie 'Apollo 13.' Passengers from the Starsys Research Corp. describe their experiences aboard the 'Vomit Comet.'
