Reconciling trade pacts with multilateral environmental agreements

Article Abstract:

The failures of the 1999 World Trade Conference in Seattle have forced regulators, trade negotiators, industry, and activitists to concentrate on how to make trade more environmentally sustainable. Many nongovernmental organizations aim to give multilateral environmental agreements the same clout as WTO rules.

EU formalizes use of controversial precautionary principle

Trade versus environment: is trade winning out?

Article Abstract:

Two reports reveal that the Ilisu hydroelectric dam project in Turkey will likely decrease the capacity of the Tigris River to flush out wastewater discharges. The Oveseas Private and Investment Corp. and the U.S. Export-Import Bank are also said to be involved in major mining and drilling projects in developing countries.
