Relative resistance of positional isomers of polychlorinated biphenyls toward reductive dechlorination by zerovalent iron in subcritical water

The absence and application of stable carbon isotopic fractionation during the reductive dechlorination of polychlorinated biphenyls

Article Abstract:

A bacterial culture (known to reduce PCBs) is subjected to 2,3,4,5-tetrachlorobiphenyl, and the resulting 2,3,5-trichlorobiphenyl is measured for stable carbon isotopic fractionation. The noted absence of byproducts is graphed.

Priming microbial meta-dechlorination of polychlorinated biphenyls that have persisted in Housatonic River sediments for decades

Article Abstract:

Several polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) cogeners are capable of stimulating indigenous microbial populations in sediment to dechlorinate PCB. The use of 2,3,4,5,6-pentachlorobiphenl (23456-CB), 236-CB and 2346-CB resulted in a narrow meta-dechlorination specificity. Additionally, it was already known that para-dechlorination could be stimulated in the microbial population by PCB cogeners.
