Remediation at a marine Superfund site: surficial sediment PCB cogener concentration, composition, and redistribution

Article Abstract:

Remediation of Massachusetts' New Bedford Harbor does not appear to significantly affect the levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) within surficial sediment. The estuary is a Superfund site and is being monitored for the effects of the remediation effort. An analysis of the data using exploratory statistical techniques and a qualitative graphical technique helped determine subtle changes caused by the remediation effort that were not evident with measurements by traditional methods.

Electrochemical treatment of landfill leachate: oxidation at Ti/PbO2 and Ti/SnO2 anodes

Article Abstract:

Electrochemical treatment can be an effective way to treat the leachate from landfills. The treatment enables direct and indirect oxidation processes to remove refractory organic pollutants. Factors influencing the treatment process include the pH, the current density, and the chloride concentration. Additionally, the titanium anode used in the process is coated with either SnO2 or PbO2.

Ferrate treatment for removing chromium from high-level radioactive tank waste

Article Abstract:

A method for removing chromium from radioactive waste is developed. Using oxidative leaching with ferrate, 60-70% of the total chromium is removed. Accompanying charts and graphs provide additional statistical data.
