Riding the back of electrons: theoretician Rolf Landham remains a defining figure in the physics of information

The distinguished career of physicist Rolf Landauer is best seen in his contributions to the understanding of the atomic basis of information. Landauer's most important contribution to the field is the Landauer's principle which state that the erasure of information is responsible for the release of energy.

Congress approved a $151 billion surface transportation bill that provides funding for magnetically levitated vehicles across the country. Little research has been done since the 1970s, and the new funding should elevate interest and technological developments.
