Run silent, run (not so) cheap

Article Abstract:

Polar oceanographers are conducting research from a nuclear submarine under the ice at the North Pole. The researchers may avoid using magnetic and seismic devices because they could reveal the location of the submarine. These submarines cost $8 million to $15 million per year to operate.

Phantom touch: imbuing a prosthesis with manual dexterity

Article Abstract:

Testing is being done at Rutgers University's department of biomedical engineering on what could be the first nimble prosthesis. A 10-year old amputee so far ranks as the only one who can wield the electric signals designated by the irregular lines on the computer screen.
