Manufacturing: when the old ways work best

Article Abstract:

Dendix, a Chepstow-based brush producing company with an annual turnover of 5 million pounds sterling, adopted effectively the outdated process-based cell method of production line, in 1990. This strategy was employed subsequent to the inefficacy of the product-based cell system in which cells are categorized into different units based on production control. The induction of Anton Roelands as the operations director of the company paved the way for a change in the infrastructure of the production unit. Roeland steered the Dendix company to an overwhelming success in terms of production efficiency within six months of its restructuring.

Keeping track of data

Article Abstract:

Selecting the right material for an engineering project means sorting through perhaps thousands of candidates. Materials databases narrow the field. They rule out materials that are not appropriate, or even merely adequate, presenting a short list of superior choices. Some databases consider the materials world as a whole, while others consider such aspects as plastics and rubber, powder metallurgy or a particular company's products.
