Wellcome Trust has grown rich with the sale of Wellcome PLC, and now grants $380 million yearly to biomedical research, rivaling the UK Medical Research Council in size and complementing its funding efforts. Most endowments go through colleges, but its largest project is the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus.

ARC affair troubles French scientists

Article Abstract:

A federal investigation of mismanaged finances at ARC has forced Jacques Crozemarie to resign as head and jeopardized the future of medical-research funding in France. The research community, which receives crucial funds from ARC, had ignored the allegations of wrongdoing at the charity.

French scientists may face charges over CJD outbreak

Pediatrician Jean-Claude Job and biochemist Fernand Dray are under investigation for involuntary homicide. The investigation involves contaminated human growth hormone that has caused at least 24 cases of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
