Clinton holds first AIDS summit

Cabinet oficers, researchers, activists and health care professionals attended the AIDS conference in Washington, DC. Pres Clinton announced an initiative to speed development of drugs, vaccines and chemical barriers and appointed Patsy Fleming to head a working party on federal AIDS research.

Looking for leads in HIV's battle with immune system

Article Abstract:

A National Institutes of Health meeting on AIDS vaccine development introduced promising reports on basic HIV research. The presentations covered the protective role played by cytotoxic T lymphocytes and use of a goat virus in protecting people from HIV.
