Skyscrapers reaches for highest environmental rating

Article Abstract:

The developers of the tower near Times Square in midtown Manhattan aims to create the world's most 'environmentally responsible' high-rise office building. The building developed by a joint venture of the Durst Organization, of New York City and Bank of America based in Charlotte, North Carolina will serve as the New York headquarters of the bank and will incorporate a number of systems designed to save water and electricity.

Bamboo house passes seismic test

Article Abstract:

Bamboo has a reputation for being suitable only for building temporary structures or for housing the rural poor although it has been used as a building material in tropical and subtropical regions for centuries. In its natural state, bamboo (a member of the grass family) is indeed extremely nondurable, being vulnerable to moisture, insects, and fungi.

Observatory to cap Maine crossing

Article Abstract:

The erection of a cable-stayed bridge on U.S. Route 1 in Maine between Prospect and Verona by Figg Engineering Group, of Tallahassee, Florida, is described. It is expected to offer visitors panoramic views from an observatory atop one of its 420 ft (130m) tall pylons.
