Structural engineering: researchers test skyscraper responses in Chicago

Article Abstract:

Two sets of data are being compared by researchers at the University of Notre Dame in collaboration with personnel from the Chicago Office of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and the University of Western Ontario's Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory. While one set of data refer to the design of high rise of buildings based on computer analyses and scale model tested in wind tunnels, the other refers to using of accelerometers and Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers in three skyscrapers to collect the data under wind loads.
