TQM implementation barriers in academe: a framework for further investigation

Article Abstract:

The nature of academic work, management structure and variety and role of customers are three categories of alleged barriers to the implementation of a total quality management (TQM) philosophy in academic settings. In terms of the nature of academic work, adoption of TQM philosophy is difficult partly due to lack of teamwork among faculty members. The attitude of skepticism among faculty members regarding TQM also hinders the effective adoption of TQM philosophy in various schools of business.
