Technology, experimentation, and the quality of survey data

Article Abstract:

Computers have improved the quality of data collected for empirical social science research, in addition to enhancing the capacity of researchers to collect, process, and analyze data. Interviewing to gather sociological data by computer is more accurate than non-electronic data collection.

Urgently needed: policies on access to data by erstwhile collaborators

Article Abstract:

The Public Health Service should develop guidelines to prevent disputes among scientists about later access to the data and materials that had been used during a collaborative research effort. After such efforts break up, much time and effort is wasted arguing.

Sm-Nd isotopic data and earth's evolution

Article Abstract:

Sm/Nd isotopic data on samples of the Acasta Gneisses showing a wide range of initial epsilon sub-Nd values may be interpreted as the result of the effect of metamorphism. However, the statistical methods of this interpretation may be in error.
