The Lotus position

Article Abstract:

The new Elise sports cars of Lotus Cars Ltd, exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1995, possess an adhesive-bonded aluminum chassis. The chassis uses customized extruded sections and sheets, with front and rear torque boxes joined by rails. The chassis is light with high torsional stiffness which makes it resistant to crashes. The inherent corrosion resistance of the aluminium chassis enhances its uses. The foot pedals, pedal box and composite brake discs are also made of aluminum.

The Wright Crusader midibus has an advanced suspension kneeling facility to provide easy access to passengers. Its chassis is based on the new Volvo B6LE low-floor chassis which allows even those in wheelchairs to ride the bus. The Crusader uses mainly aluminum with the body utilizing the Alusuisse Strucktal M5438 bolted aluminum alloy construction system based on a framework of 3 mm thick extrusions, with the advantages of low weight, high strength and ease of repair.
