The Pacific hub for marine science and technology

The University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute is the nation's leading institution of marine research. The Philippines, with many marine resources, plans to develop marine science and technology between 1996 and 2001. The resources include 27,000 square kilometers of coral reefs.

Science and technology in health: an emphasis on biotechnology

The Philippines places a high priority on using biotechnology in health research. This research has led to the development of products such as herbal medicines, vaccines, medical devices, semi-synthetic antibiotics and fortified processed foods.
