The chain-length dependence test

Article Abstract:

Trends obtained from systematic studies based on chain-length variation have provided valuable insight and understanding into the behavior of m-phenylene ethynylene foldamers. The generalization of this experimental approach, the chain-length dependence test, is useful for studying solution conformation, packing in the solid state, specific intrachain interactions, and the contributions of end groups to a particular property.

Molecular organogels: Soft matter comprised of low-molecular-mass organic gelators and organic liquids

Article Abstract:

An account of new advances in understanding how and why dilute solutions/sols of low-molecular-mass organic gelators (LMOGs) undergo microscopic phase separation to form self-assembled fibrillar networks in molecular organogels is presented. The examples provided include both structurally complicated and simple LMOGs in a wide range of organic liquids.

Crystals and crystallinity in polymeric materials

Article Abstract:

A new view of the concepts of crystallinity and crystals in synthetic macromolecules is discussed. In polymeric materials, crystallinity might be present with the simultaneous occurrence of large amounts of structural disorder and in the absence of true 3-D long-range order.
