Ford Motor Co uses Aries ConceptStation MCAE software to speed development, with the goal of producing new cars 36 months after design begins. Design traditionally involves a design engineer, a CAD operator and a finite element analyst, but the Concept Station reduces the time the latter two need and gives the designer more control. A new rear lower control arm took 95 days rather than 229 required for prior methods to redesign, and weighed 40% less.
