The political economy of intellectual property protection: technological protectionism and transfer of revenue among nations

Article Abstract:

The political dimensions of intellectual property rights (IPR) protection in developed and developing countries are discussed. Specifically, the different approaches towards IPR protection and their impact on international trade relations are assessed. It is seen that developed nations favor technological protectionism at great cost to their developing counterparts. To this end, a framework for resolving the debate over IPR income distribution at the international level is suggested.
