The root woman: Kahlee Keane's passion is to save Canada's medicinal plants

Article Abstract:

An insight into the objectives of writer, educator and eco-herbalist Kahlee Keane also called 'Root Woman' in the light of her book on a field guide to medicinal plants co-authored by David Howarth is presented. Kahlee's main goals are to educate people to protect and respect native medicinal plants to maintain the fragile prairie ecosystem of Canada.

The Catalpa speciosa is a summer-flowering tree known as the Indian bean tree in Canada. The tree is appreciated for its beautiful blooms, although it has not been given much attention by North American gardening and horticultural experts.

Ginger: rediscover an ancient treasure

Article Abstract:

For thousands years ginger is prized for both its culinary and medicinal properties. The best culinary ginger is still grown in Jamaica and the best medicinal species are found in North America, particularly in Canada's woods and forests.
