The viable alternative

Article Abstract:

This article illustrates the seismic retrofit project currently in progress at the Benicia-Martinez Bridge. The retrofit construction incorporates seismic isolation bearings, steel pipe piles driven into the empty shells of the pier footings, and additional piles in the existing caissons for improving seismic performance during earthquake's shear, tension, and compression.

Parkway payoff

Article Abstract:

The article discusses the construction plan of the 9 mile Pocahontas Parkway in Richmond, Virginia and budgetary implications of the project. The Parkway will consist of dual bridges 150 feet above the James River laid in precast segments for the approach spans and cast-in-place balanced cantilever construction for the main crossing.
