Thin yet satisfying

Article Abstract:

The introduction of high strength cold-rolled, rephosphorized, microalloyed and dual-phase grades of steel has allowed the construction of lighter cars using thinner steel sheets. Dual-phase grades are hardened and tempered directly in the continuous annealing line and do not require heat treatment by the user. Stricter safety standards are also inducing car designers to use high strength steel because they are effective absorbers of energy.

Sticking with it

Article Abstract:

An Araldite adhesive, XD4600 by Ciba Polymers, is used to join aluminum chassis to the interior of the vehicle. It provides strength, stiffness and resilience in the joints in the vehicle structure to improve the power/weight ratio. The adhesive is mainly used to make the Ford AIV, an aluminum concept car based on the design of the Ford Taurus. The light weight of the car decreases fuel consumption, pollution and braking distance.

Automotive steels

Article Abstract:

Steel equipment and supplies are long lasting and easy to maintain. Most firms use modern automotive steels due to their cost effective services. It is imperative that steels are reshapable and durable. Car manufacturers should balance fuel consumption concerns with car weight and safety concerns, and new steel products can compare favorably with other materials to serve these needs.
