Thinking like an island: Pelee farm merges ecological forethought with farm sense

Article Abstract:

The Pelee Island, in lake Erie, was once covered with a mix of woodland, savannah, and marshes but now more than 80 percent of the island's 10,000 acres is used for farming. Historian, naturalist and farmer, Ron Tiessen, and the Pelee Island Heritage Center's vision for the Meadowlark Organic Farm is firmly rooted in the design and maintenance of agriculturally productive systems that have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems.
