Ultrasonic evaluation of thermal fatigue composites

Article Abstract:

Three different composites were subjected to thermal cycling using an apparatus that moved the specimens in and out of a furnace. The effects were determined using computations of longitudinal acoustic velocity, attenuation coefficient and flexural strength. Results show that thermal fatigue in composites is generally caused by fiber-matrix debonding which becomes evident as the thermal cycles increase. The difference is in the number of cycles required before each composite shows signs of fatigue.

Cyclic deformation and fatigue of a TiNi shape-memory alloy wire subjected to rotating bending

Article Abstract:

An investigation into the cyclic deformation and fatigue of a TiNi shape-memory alloy (SMA) wire, was based on rotating-bending fatigue tests at different strain amplitudes, temperatures and speeds, in air and water. Fatigue life was longer than 10super7 cycles with no change to deformation properties under cyclic deformation, in the rhombohedral-phase transformation region. Fatigue life was shorter than 10super5 cycles for strain amplitudes in the martensitic transformation region.

Low-cycle fatigue of TiNi shape memory alloy and formulation of fatigue life

Article Abstract:

The low-cycle fatigue properties of TiNi shape memory alloy undergoing rotation and bending in water and in air do not show corrosion fatigue in the low-cycle fatigue region in water. Data further indicate that the fatigue life is similar in air and water at elevated temperatures whereas stress-strain curves show differences.
