Unequal health: the federal government targets disparities in health that result from ethnic background and economic status

Article Abstract:

Many ethnic minority groups in the US are being left behind the increase in health being enjoyed by white Americans. To prevent this disparity from widening, the federal government will address the areas of disparity including infant mortality, diabetes, heart diseases and HIV/AIDS.

Detecting signals with noise

Article Abstract:

Two experiments proving that background noise can be beneficial to signal transmission are presented. The first focuses on the ability of noise to enhance a signal, while the second demonstrates the brain's ability to sort a desired signal amidst background noise.

The benefits of background noise

Background noise has long been regarded as a serious nuisance by engineers. However, researchers are discovering that in certain instances, noise can help improve the performance of electronic and biological systems through a process called stochastic resonance.
