Unlocking the secrets of longevity genes

Article Abstract:

The understanding of the power of longevity genes might reveal the keys to extending human life span while banishing diseases of old age. SIR2 is one of the first longevity genes to be identified and characterized and they illustrate that SIR2 might be the key regulator for a genetically regulated survival mechanism that can extend life and improve health.

Zinc fingers: they play a part in regulating the activity of genes in many species, from yeast to humans. Fewer than 10 years ago no one knew they existed

Article Abstract:

Zinc fingers help transcription factors select the appropriate docking site on a promoter, a process that enables an enzyme to transcribe a genetic segment from DNA to RNA. Understanding of zinc fingers helps to explain how genes are activated in multicellular organisms.

Histones as regulators of genes

Article Abstract:

Research evidence suggests that histones play a role in gene regulation. At least one histone type aids the initiation of the transcription of information stored as DNA in messenger RNA molecules.
