Engineers renovate, expand 100-year old hotel

Article Abstract:

The Carlton Hotel at Madison Avenue, New York, constructed in 1904, was renovated architecturally and structurally through an innovative fast-track program. The hotel was renovated one floor at a time, to keep the hotel running where crews built new elevator control rooms on top of the old ones, then transferred systems during hotel downtime.

Renovation: Los Angeles renovates landmark observatory

Article Abstract:

The Griffith Observatory is a 70-year old building in Los Angeles, which is used for many motion pictures. In 2002 this observatory started its renovation process to add a new level beneath the building for an underground theater and exhibition space.
