Wing scales may help beat the heat

Article Abstract:

Tufts University engineers suggest that the scales that form the colorful patterns on butterfly wings may regulate the insects' body temperature. The scales can reflect or absorb sunlight, and small changes in the scales correspond to large changes in the amount of solar energy butterflies absorb.

Zebrafish embryology builds better model vertebrate

Article Abstract:

Researchers have developed a method for taking miniscule clusters of cells from early zebrafish embryos and growing them in vitro. The technique confirms the validity of the zebrafish as a vertebrate development model and will allow scientists to utilize data on zebrafish mutations.
