World-class manufacturing in Chengdu: a case study on China's first aviation joint venture

Article Abstract:

A company venturing into the Chinese market is advised to be engaged in endeavors aligned with the country's economic development programs for the business to have a quick start as presented in the case study of United Technologies' Pratt & Whitney's joint venture with Chengdu Engine Company. China is also presented as being capable of absorbing world-class management activities when the global partner is sensitive to the central planning.

Introducing management science to enterprises in the People's Republic of China

Article Abstract:

China has been posting high average annual growth rates since 1978. Despite the high growth rates, state-owned enterprises are facing difficult times because of poor management. Measures to change state-owned enterprises should be supplemented with qualitative improvements in workers' abilities and the application of modern management techniques in these enterprises.
