Cost reduction now drives manufacturing change programmes

Article Abstract:

A survey shows that manufacturing companies incorporating best practice principles into their business programme are benefitting from improved performance. Businesses from the United Kingdom, Australia and the US have been grouped into categories entitled 'frontrunner', 'follower' and 'firefighter' by survey group Bourton Group. Improvement targets should be established to speed up change management strategy. Managers should actively support the change process.

Breaking the downward trend

Article Abstract:

The manufacturing sector of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, is undergoing a renaissance through the efforts of the Centre for Innovation and Engineering Design. Small companies, for instance, are becoming aware of the skills they can offer to the UK and the world market. Industrial sites are being developed at the city's Balliol Park while firms that focused on shipbuilding and defense industries are venturing into ship conversion and offshore oil.
